High School Football Jamborees in Sacramento: Teams Gear Up for the Season Ahead

Excited for some high school football action? Sacramento-area teams are gearing up for the upcoming season with jamborees on Friday and Saturday. These fully padded scrimmages will give teams a chance to test their skills before the season kicks off on August 22-23. Most teams will have referees officiating the games, but Oak Ridge coach Casey Taylor has decided to skip the officials for his team's scrimmage against Lincoln of Stockton.

Taylor's decision stems from a previous incident where players were ejected during a scrimmage two years ago. He believes that referees should use these moments as teaching opportunities to remind players and coaches about the consequences of unsportsmanlike behavior. In California, the minimum penalty for an ejection is now three games, a rule aimed at reducing misconduct on the field.

While referees typically officiate scrimmages like regular games, they do not usually discuss disqualifications with head coaches during these events. The CIF section office addresses this issue at their annual athletic directors meeting, emphasizing the importance of fair play and sportsmanship on the field. Players and coaches receive warnings before being disqualified, with two unsportsmanlike conduct fouls or an automatic disqualification leading to ejection.

In the Sacramento area, Del Campo will host a jamboree featuring playoff regulars like Rosemont, Argonaut, Woodland Christian, and Wood. Coach Matt Costa has led his team to two playoff appearances in the last three seasons, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. Get ready for some thrilling football action as teams prepare to hit the field and showcase their skills in the upcoming season.
