Remembering Seven: A Tale of Resilience and Legacy

A foal named Seven, born on the seventh day of May, seven weeks premature, has sadly passed away, as confirmed by owner Katie Van Slyke. Despite being born early, Seven defied the odds and lived for over a year. Van Slyke expressed her sadness at losing Seven, mentioning how they had hoped for more time to enjoy his presence in the pasture, listening to his cheerful whinny, and feeding him his favorite banana treat. The recent high temperatures took a toll on Seven, causing him to show signs of colic, ultimately leading to the difficult decision to euthanize him.

Seven was born prematurely at 286 days into gestation, with many of his bones still in cartilage form. Despite facing numerous challenges, including surgeries, braces, and physical therapy, Seven showed remarkable progress. To honor his legacy, the "Seven Scholarship" was established, providing financial support to equine vet students and the University of Tennessee Center for Veterinary Medicine. Van Slyke highlighted Seven's fighting spirit and the joy he brought to those around him, emphasizing his strong will to live.

Van Slyke expressed her gratitude to the Tennessee Equine Hospital and UTCVM for their efforts in saving Seven's life. She shared Seven's journey and daily life on the Running Springs farm through TikTok, allowing others to witness his resilience and spirit. Seven may not have had a conventional life as a horse, but he touched the hearts of many and inspired others to fight for his chance at life.
