From the Ice to the Water: Dustin Byfuglien's Fishing Journey and Ben Simmons' NBA Struggles
Former Winnipeg Jets star Dustin Byfuglien has found a new passion in fishing and recently participated in the Kenora Bass Invitational where he finished 25th out of 141 teams. Byfuglien, known as one of the most iconic players in Jets history, has been seen enjoying fishing on Minnesota lakes and Lake of the Woods in northwestern Ontario. Teaming up with Mike Reid from Sioux Narrows, Byfuglien's largemouth bass haul totaled 49.25 pounds over three days, securing their 25th place finish. Despite his retirement from hockey, Byfuglien still holds a special place in the hearts of fans, as evident from the cheers he received at the competition.
Another athlete facing challenges is Ben Simmons, who has seen a decline in his on-court performance since the 2020-21 NBA season. Simmons struggled with confidence issues, chronic back problems, and a lack of scoring ability beyond four feet, leading to a significant drop in his stats. Missing the entire 2021-22 season due to a back injury, Simmons has struggled to regain his form, going from an MVP candidate to a free agent waiting for a contract offer. With most NBA teams finalizing their rosters, Simmons may have to wait for an opportunity to arise, potentially in the middle of the season or even overseas.
Despite his setbacks, Simmons still possesses valuable skills that could benefit teams in need of playmaking and perimeter defense. Rumors suggest that teams like the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Denver Nuggets could be interested in adding him to their rosters. A cost-controlled deal for Simmons could prove to be a steal for any team willing to take a chance on him. However, the uncertainty of when he will find a new team lingers, and the longer he remains without an NBA contract, the more he risks being forgotten. Europe could also be an option for Simmons if NBA opportunities do not materialize soon.
