Disturbing Trend of Sex Toy Incidents at WNBA Games Sparks Police Investigation
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has shared a photo and video clip of a man who allegedly hit a 12-year-old girl with a sex toy during a recent WNBA game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This incident is part of a disturbing trend of related arrests at WNBA games. The man in the footage was seen wearing an Ohio State cap and a Beavis and Butthead shirt while walking through the concourse. The police report stated that the girl was struck in the right leg by the object.
The New York Liberty team spokesperson mentioned that they are working with the police as they investigate the incident further. Another individual, Kaden Lopez, was recently arrested after a similar incident at the Sun vs. Mercury game. Lopez allegedly hit another fan and a 9-year-old niece with a sex toy at the PHX Arena. He appeared in court and faces charges of disorderly conduct, assault, and public display of explicit sexual material.
The Phoenix Police Department confirmed Lopez's arrest and stated that the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will decide on prosecution. The exact number of incidents involving sex toys thrown at WNBA games this season is unknown, as not all objects made it onto the court. The first reported incident occurred on July 29. Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve condemned the sexualization of women and emphasized that such behavior should not be trivialized or joked about.
The WNBA issued a statement warning that violators could face charges for throwing objects onto the court or in the seating area. The league prioritizes the safety and well-being of everyone in the arenas, including players, officials, and fans. Such actions pose a safety risk and will not be tolerated. The incidents at WNBA games highlight the need for respect and appropriate behavior in sports environments to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
