Buena Vista High School: The New Home of the Saginaw Soul

The Saginaw Soul, our region's first professional basketball team in the Basketball Super League, has found a new home court at the former Buena Vista High School in Buena Vista Township. The team's owner, Kelly Garety, expressed excitement about the impact this move will have on the community and the opportunity to play on a court where local basketball legends once played. The decision to stay in Saginaw County was a priority for the team, and they are thrilled to make the former high school their new home.

Buena Vista High School, which closed in 2013, will now house the Saginaw Soul as they prepare for their upcoming season. The township superintendent, Torrie Lee, highlighted the partnership with the team as a way to revitalize the historic gym and engage with the community. The Soul plans to remodel the gym, which can accommodate around 1,000 people, by adding their logos, a concession stand, and more to create a unique atmosphere for fans and players alike.

With the season set to begin on November 15, Saginaw Soul Coach Isiah "Zeke" Thomas, a Saginaw High alum, is proud to have a home court with such a rich basketball history. The team, comprised of players from Saginaw County and beyond, is eager to showcase their skills in a venue that has produced basketball greats like Terrance Roberson and Tory Jackson. The Soul's presence in Buena Vista Township is not only a homecoming for some players but also a chance to contribute to the community's basketball legacy.
