Biscuit and Buddy: A Tribute Concert and Album Celebration for Drummer Buddy Miles

Renowned musician James “Biscuit” Rouse recently released a tribute album titled Biscuit and Buddy, honoring the legendary drummer Buddy Miles. The album features interpretations of Miles’ songs and original tracks inspired by him. It includes contributions from musicians like Vernon Reid, Doug Wimbish, and Marcus Machado.
To further celebrate Buddy Miles, Rouse will host a special concert at The Cutting Room in New York City on September 5, which would have been Buddy’s 78th birthday. The event will feature special guests like Vernon Reid, Marcus Machado, Will Calhoun, and Liberty DeVitto. The concert will also include a roundtable discussion about Miles and rare video footage of him.
The celebration will coincide with the release of Biscuit and Buddy on vinyl, with advance copies available at the venue. Tickets for the Buddy Miles Birthday Celebration concert are currently on sale. Rouse expressed his excitement for the tribute show, emphasizing the importance of honoring Buddy’s musical legacy.
Buddy Miles was not only a talented drummer but also a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He co-founded Electric Flag in 1967 and later joined Band of Gypsys with Jimi Hendrix. Miles collaborated with various artists and released solo albums. He also became known as the lead voice of The California Raisins in the late 1980s.
Biscuit and Buddy features covers of songs from Miles’ albums Expressway to Your Skull and Them Changes. Rouse’s rendition of Neil Young’s “Down by the River” is included in the album, with a music video released in conjunction with the announcement of the Miles birthday celebration. This album marks Rouse’s debut as a solo artist.
James “Biscuit” Rouse has an extensive musical background, serving as a musical director for artists like Lauryn Hill and touring with bands like Living Colour. He has showcased his drumming and vocal talents with various acts, including the Band of Gypsys Revisited tribute band. The upcoming concert promises to be a memorable tribute to the influential musician Buddy Miles.
