Beatles Night at Citi Field: Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Beatles' Iconic Shea Stadium Performance

The New York Mets are set to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Beatles' iconic performance at Shea Stadium on Beatles Night at Citi Field on Aug. 15. The team will pay tribute to the historic 1965 show, which marked the first rock concert at a major U.S. stadium. Shea Stadium, the former home of the Mets and the New York Jets, hosted the performance before being demolished in 2009 to make room for Citi Field. The Beatles' performance at Shea Stadium was captured in the documentary "The Beatles at Shea Stadium."
The upcoming celebration will feature a performance by the band 1964 The Tribute near the Shea Bridge at 6:15 p.m. ET. The first 15,000 fans entering Citi Field will receive an exclusive mini replica of Shea Stadium. Following the game against the Seattle Mariners, there will be a fireworks display synchronized to the Beatles' music. Members of the gameday staff who worked at the Aug. 15, 1965 concert will throw out the first pitch.
The Beatles' setlist at Shea Stadium included 12 songs performed in front of 55,000 enthusiastic fans. The concert opened with "Twist and Shout" and featured hits like "I Feel Fine," "Ticket to Ride," "Can't Buy Me Love," and "A Hard Day's Night." The celebration promises to be a memorable event for fans of the Beatles and the Mets alike.
