TIFF Primetime Program 2025: A Celebration of Television Series at the Toronto International Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has expanded its recognition beyond feature films to include television series in its Primetime program. This year, the festival announced the lineup for the Primetime program, which showcases episodic and serialized storytelling. Ten different series were selected, with six of them making their world premieres at TIFF. The 10th anniversary of the Primetime program coincides with TIFF's 50-year celebration, offering a departure from the festival's traditional film-heavy lineup.

Among the series making their world premiere in TIFF's Primetime section is "The Lowdown," a Tulsa-set series for FX starring Ethan Hunt, who is also an executive producer. Created by Sterlin Harjo, a co-creator of "Reservation Dogs," the series promises an intriguing narrative. Another highlight is "Black Rabbit," featuring Jude Law and Jason Bateman, which was created for Netflix by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman. Bateman directed the initial episodes, with Laura Linney taking the helm for subsequent episodes. The entire series will be available on Netflix shortly after TIFF concludes.

In previous years, TIFF's Primetime program has showcased acclaimed series like Alfonso CuarĂ³n's "Disclaimer" and the world premiere of the fifth season of "The Handmaid's Tale." This year's lineup promises to continue the tradition of presenting compelling and diverse television content. The 50th Toronto International Film Festival will kick off on September 4 and run until September 14, featuring a range of exciting series in its Primetime program.
