R.E.M. Tribute Tour: Celebrating Fables of the Reconstruction with Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy

Actor Michael Shannon and musician Jason Narducy have teamed up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.'s 1985 album, Fables of the Reconstruction. They have been performing together for over a decade, paying tribute to various artists like Lou Reed, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan. Their latest project focuses on R.E.M.'s music, starting with the album Murmur in 2023 and now bringing Fables Of The Reconstruction to the UK this summer.
The duo's performances have been well-received, with Shannon expressing excitement about playing in the UK for the first time. Narducy, known for his work with Bob Mould, finds the R.E.M. project a refreshing change from his usual punk rock gigs. Both artists have immersed themselves in the music, studying the songs and adding their emotional touch to the performances.
Shannon reflects on the significance of Fables Of The Reconstruction, noting that R.E.M. was at a critical point in their career during that time. The album carries a sense of desperation and uncertainty, which adds depth to their interpretation of the songs. The reunion with R.E.M. at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, further validated their project and showcased the band's support for their tribute.
Looking ahead, Narducy hints at a possible tour for the fortieth anniversary of Life's Rich Pageant next year. However, both artists prefer to keep the project as a fun side endeavor rather than a long-term commitment. Shannon humorously mentions plans for a theme park opening in 2027, where he will be dressed up and performing Third Eye Blind songs.
The Fables Of The Reconstruction UK tour is set to take place from August 19 to 26, with tickets currently available for purchase. Join Shannon and Narducy as they bring the music of R.E.M. to life on stage in this special anniversary celebration.
